I've finally completed a video of the Madagascar Mission! I can't believe this is a reality a full two months after we returned home. But here it is.
My hope is to whet your appetite to what life is like in the city where we ministered to people and the island nation, in general. The people are so diverse in appearance. They are hard working people. Some pull dollies with supplies of wood or furniture. Some are butchers. Some simply operate a market business. Many go through the day in Mahajanga barefooted too. These are a strong people. But you won't get the impression that they are wealthy. The fact is that Madagascar is the ninth poorest country in the world. You don't need to travel far to see that.
You'll see two locations where we gave our vision screening and reader glasses, along with some basic health care. One location is the site of a school. The people were lined up there, waiting for us on the first morning we went there. They were anxious to get glasses, even if some of them didn't need them. The second site is the home of a local pastor and his family. They also have their church meetings in their home. Some of the people were there with us all day on the days they were there. The truth is that many of them don't have other things to do. So, they make occasions like this to be a social event. Once they were screened and given glasses (if needed), they still would sit under a shade tree and tell stories and chat with each other for hours. I can imagine what their social life is like now. Maybe they do more than just tell stories. Maybe they actually dig into each others' lives and truly know each other intimately! In any case, I envision that as a great facet of a great community.
So, here is our mission team video. The music is an authentic Madagascar worship song, "Only Jesus."
